1Chinas Greatest Inventions
2Gunpowder
- When the Chinese first invented their newest
invention in the eighth century AD their enemies
were shocked. Chinese scientists discovered that
an explosive mixture called gunpowder could be
produced by combining sulfur, charcoal, and
saltpeter (potassium nitrate). New weapons were
rapidly developed, including rockets and others
that were launched from a bamboo tube.
3Compass
The compass was made for religious use but it is
also used for war. If your house was in perfect
harmony with nature (which meant they thought if
you faced your house to magnetic north, you and
nature would get along) you would get good luck.
4Paper
Paper was made in China in the second century.
Ts'ai-Lun invented the first paper ever .
Tsai-lun lived and served as an official at the
Chinese Imperial Court at the Han Dynasty in
China at about 1800 years ago.
5Printing
The Chinese invented printing between 1041 and
1048.
Pi Sheng invented moveable printing during the
Sung dynasty. But the technique never became
widespread in China, because there are too many
characters.
