people are trafficked into the USA each year. - Many children are as young as 3-5 years old.
- Westerners (including Americans) account for
about 38 of all child sex offenders in three
principle destinations for tourists in Cambodia.
In Latin American countries, estimates are as
high as 80. - ECPAT estimates that 25 of sex tourists
worldwide are US citizens. - Between 244,000 and 325,000 American children are
at risk of being victimized by commercial sexual
exploitation each year. - There are more human slaves now than any other
time in history. - Only 2 of American citizens are aware of the
child sex trade industry.

5Human Trafficking Complexities
- Domestic
- Lack of awareness
- Lack of funding because the public is not aware.
- Lack of funding perpetuates the lack of awareness
- International
- Poverty
- Language/cultural barriers
- Lack of protective legislature
6Insight on the Issue
- Every day, in many countries of this world,
children are bought and sold, transported against
their will, and forced into lives of
prostitution, slave labor and utter misery.
Mary Robinson, UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights - The more you learn about how the most innocent
and vulnerable among us are savaged by these
crimes, the more impossible it becomes to look
the other way. Colin Powell, former US
Secretary of State - Never doubt that a small group of committed
citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the
only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
