- And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the
same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have
mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David my
daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he
answered her not a word. And his disciples came
and besought him, saying, Send her away for she
crieth after us. Then came she and worshipped
him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and
said, It is not meet to take the children's
bread, and cast it to dogs. And she said,
Truth, Lord yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which
fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus
answered and said unto her, O woman, great is
thy faith be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And
her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

- And he went a little farther, and fell on his
face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be
possible, let this cup pass from me nevertheless
not as I will, but as thou wilt. He went away
again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my
Father, if this cup may not pass away from me,
except I drink it, thy will be done. And he left
them, and went away again, and prayed the third
time, saying the same words. - MATTHEW 2746

19DID JESUS HAVE FAITH IN HIS FATHER?

the things which he suffered... - MATTHEW 282
- And, behold, there was a great earthquake for
the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and
came and rolled back the stone from the door, and
sat upon it.
20HOW WILL THE SAINTS OF GOD LEARN PATIENCE?
- ISAIAH 4810
- Behold, I have refined thee, but not with
silver I have chosen thee in the furnace of
affliction. - JOB 2310
- But he knoweth the way that I take when he
hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
21ELLEN G. WHITE, THE GREAT CONTROVERSY, pp.
618, 619, 630-631
- Jacob was driven almost to despair but he knew
that without help from Heaven he must perish. He
had sincerely repented of his great sin, and he
appealed to the mercy of God. He would not be
turned from his purpose, but held fast the Angel,
and urged his petition with earnest, agonizing
cries, until he prevailed. As Satan influenced
Esau to march against Jacob, so he will stir up
the wicked to destroy God's people in the time of
trouble. He numbers the world as his subjects
but the little company who keep the commandments
of God are resisting his supremacy.
22- As Satan accuses the people of God on account of
their sins, the Lord permits him to try them to
the uttermost. Their confidence in God, their
faith and firmness, will be severely tested.
Their faith does not fail because their prayers
are not immediately answered. Though suffering
the keenest anxiety, terror, and distress, they
do not cease their intercessions. Day and night
they cry unto God for deliverance. Yet they cease
not their earnest intercession. But they must
wait yet a little longer. The very delay, so
painful to them, is the best answer to their
petitions. As they endeavor to wait trustingly
for the Lord to work, they are led to exercise
faith, hope, and patience, which have been too
little exercised during their religious
experience. Yet for the elect's sake, the time of
trouble will be shortened.
