Painters and artists

• The end of the 15th century
• Painters, artists, sculptors, and architects had
  created a new artistic world.
• Many had mastered new techniques.
• These techniques had realistically portrayed the
  world around them and were ready to move into new
  forms of creative expression.

Techniques

• Artists began to paint frescoes (a fresco is a
  painting done on fresh, wet plaster with
  water-based paints.)

Perspective and light were introduced into art.

• Medieval paintings appeared flat and lifeless in
  Renaissance paintings, perspective gave the
  illusion of depth and individual people were
  realistically portrayed.

Investigation and human anatomy

• Another development was the investigation of
  movement and human anatomy. (The realistic
  portrayal of the individual person, especially
  human nude, became one of the chief aims of
  Renaissance art.)
