Registration Required
Seminar
Time 7pm, Thurs. Aug 17th Place Google
Pittsburgh
Lower level of CIC Building (next to Hamburg
Hall) at CMU
Abstract Josh Bloch presents eight Java puzzles
for your entertainment and enlightenment. These
puzzles represent the best of the Java Puzzlers
presentations from four JavaOne conferences. The
game show format keeps you on your toes while the
puzzles teach you about the subtleties of the
Java programming language and its core libraries.
Anyone with a working knowledge of the language
will be able to understand the puzzles, but even
the most seasoned veterans will be challenged.
The lessons you take from this session are
directly applicable to your programs and designs.
Some of the jokes may even be funny.
Joshua Bloch is Chief Java Architect at Google,
author of the bestselling, Jolt Award-winning
"Effective Java" (Addison-Wesley, 2001), and
coauthor of "Java Puzzlers Traps, Pitfalls, and

previously a Distinguished Engineer at Sun
Microsystems, where he led the design and
implementation of numerous Java platform features
including JDK 5.0 language enhancements and the
Java Collections Framework. He holds a Ph.D. in
