Mission Statement
  • The mission of the West Allegheny School
    District, a leader in quality education, is to
    ensure that each student acquires the necessary
    knowledge and skills to be a responsible citizen,
    prepared for life-long learning and employment
    this is accomplished by providing meaningful and
    personally challenging learning experiences
    within a safe, nurturing environment in
    partnership with family and community.

February - Stage 2 Data Analysis To Action
Collect/Select Data
Collect information about district and community
to identify goals and design action plans. Data
includes demographics, perceptions, programs, and
achievement information.

March - Stage 3
  • Build/Analyze District Profile

Stakeholders review information on demographic
makeup, how students perform, and what supports
or hinders student achievement.

April Stage 4
Set Goals
Goals established based on collection/analysis of
data. Questions to be addressed
  • What goals already required by district/state
    (i.e. reading, math, etc.)?
  • What are areas of greatest need?
  • Which have the highest potential for impact?
  • Are goals supported by research?
  • Adequate input from stakeholders?

May Stage 5
Research/Select Effective Practices
Research conducted after goals identified. Team
members review literature on effective practices
and investigate what other districts have done.
Develop strategy statements (action statements)
that indicate how goals will be attained.

June - Stage 6
  • Craft Action Plans

Action plan synthesizes teams findings.
Organized around 3-5 improvement goals. Plan
includes
  • Goals
  • Activities/steps for achieving goals
  • Individual(s) responsible
  • Necessary resources (including staff development)
  • Proposal impact
  • How plan will be evaluated

  • Monitor Implementation of Plan

Team monitors progression of action plan and
impact on student achievement. It makes sure
activities/tasks are being accomplished according
to timeline.

2007 - 2008
  • Evaluate Impact on Student Achievement

Phase provides opportunity to measure
effectiveness. Team collects/analyzes data from
State Assessments and other measures to determine
if successful.
  • Where were goals met or exceeded?
  • How did students within specific subgroups meet
    or exceed goals?
  • Which goals were not met?
  • Are new trends emerging?
  • Were activities for specific goals reasonable?
  • Were there sufficient resources, including time?
  • If plan not sufficiently implemented to achieve
    goals, what needs changed?
