Why Set Goals?
  • It is a collaborative process to set district
    direction.
  • Keeps focus on student achievement and gaps.
  • Continuous improvement cycle.
  • Last years outcomes are this years baseline.
  • Drives budget and district priorities.
  • Framework for decision-making
  • Roadmap for work of district staff and board.
  • Accountability.

GOAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Everyone owns the District Goals. The
    superintendent is responsible for their
    completion, the Board supplies the resources
    necessary for their attainment.
  • Board Goals are set to improve process/tasks
    owned by the Board, and are evaluated in
    conjunction with the board self-evaluation.
  • CSA Personal Goals are derived from the annual
    leadership skills evaluation.
  • Merit Goals are optional and contained in the
    CSAs contract.

Veronas Mission Statement
  • The mission of the Verona Public Schools, the
    center of an engaged and supportive community, is
    to empower students to achieve their potential as
    active learners and productive citizens through
    rigorous curricula and meaningful, enriching
    experiences.

District Goal Development
  • 3 or 4 District Goals are suggested.
  • Student achievement should be the basis for at
    least one goal.
  • The goals should support the districts mission
    statement and strategic plan.
  • The scope should be broad. The detail will be in
    the action plans.
  • Goal characteristics measurable, attainable,
    student-focused, actionable, rigorous, and set to
    a timetable.

  • Establish a positive, collaborative rapport and
    build a trusting team-oriented relationship with
    the Board to ensure effective governance.
  • Build positive relationships through open,
    honest, and purposeful communication with
    district administrators, faculty, staff,
    students, parents, and community members to
    ensure continuous improvement.
  • Continue to support existing successful practices
    and identify areas requiring modification.
