Introduction
  • Deforestation refers to the cutting and burning
    of trees in the forest.
  • During the period between 1978 and 2000, it is
estimated that about 40 of the total forest area
in the world were destroyed. There is no big
tropical rainforest in Hong Kong. Some human
activities clear up the woodlands for farming or
town development, it is getting more serious in
Hong Kong. So we do this project to make us know
    more about it.

4
Where can we find woodland in Hong Kong today?
  • There is not many woodlands in Hong Kong most of
them are in the New Territories.

5
What are the characteristics of woodland in Hong
Kong?
  • The vegetation are low in Hong Kong.
  • The density of vegetation in Hong Kong is low.
  • The leaves are also small and narrow.
  • The vegetation have aerial roots and buttress
    roots.

6
What are the problems of woodland in Hong Kong?
  • - Hong Kongs woodland is not enough.
  • - Most of them are in the New Territories.
  • - There is no big tropical rainforest in Hong
    Kong.
  • - Some human activities clear up the woodlands
for farming or town development, it is getting
    more serious in Hong Kong.

7
What are the causes of the problems?
  • In order to build more
  • houses and road, the
  • government must
  • development the
  • woodland to develop land
  • for industrial used. And
  • some factory used trees
  • to make paper
  • woodland is destroyed
  • more quickly.

8
How do these problems affect our lives?
  • When the tree work in photosynthesis, it absorbs
carbon dioxide and releases oxygen which makes
the air clean. If people want to have clean air,
they shouldnt cut down too many trees. So we
    should save the woodland,
  • And, if we cut down too many trees, the
greenhouse effect will be produced, the average
    temperature will increase.

9
Are we able to solve the problems?
  • Deforestation affects us
  • because it causes global
  • warming. A rise of 2? may
  • double the frequency of
  • typhoons and increase the
  • power of typhoons by 50?!
  • So we should save our
  • woodland to abate earths
  • burden.

10
What is the best use of our woodland?
  • I think we shouldnt open
  • up the woodlands
  • because
  • Habitats for wild plants and animals can be
    destroyed
  • Global environment gets worse
  • Potential foods and drugs are destroyed.

Feeling
  • In this trip, I have learnt more
  • about woodland in Hong Kong.
  • I forgot to bring a camera,
  • so I didnt take any photo. In
  • this trip, I also learnt the plants
  • in the woodland can absorb
  • carbon dioxide and release the
  • oxygen in the daytime. Some
  • plants in the woodland are very
  • special and beautiful too. I
  • think the government should
  • Set up protected areas for
  • natives in there. So the plants
  • and animals can be protected.

Map
  • How to get there?
  • - By bus, taxi, minibus or on foot are OK
