What is Winterim

• Winter interim.
• Regular classes are suspended for two weeks.
• Students select (or are assigned to) non-typical
  classes.
• Teachers have custom designed these classes.

Why Winterim?

• Students have the opportunity to explore concepts
  beyond the regular course offerings.
• Teachers have the opportunity to teach a topic or
  concept for which they have a special passion
  and/or expertise.
• Winter is really long!
• Just wait until you see the classes

Who?

• All Middle School and High School Students.
• Some specific requirements and opportunities for
  6th graders, Juniors, Seniors, as well as Middle
  and High School Band members (more about that
  later)
• Yes- its required and attendance counts.

When?

• Winterim will begin right after our Christmas
  break and will run for two weeks.
• The dates are Monday, January 5, 2009 through
  Friday, January 16, 2009.
• On January 19, all classes will resume as normal.

What?

• Four Blocks of classes per day.
• The daily schedule will be broken into 4 segments
  as follows

• Class Selections based on class and priority
  number
• Non-band students meet in the HS Gym during B and
  C Blocks for The Truth Project Video and
  Discussion (working lunch) with Mr. Clymer, Mr.
  Brown and others
• Class Selections based on class and priority
  number

What? (continued again)

• Middle School band students will attend B Block
  with Mrs. Brown and C block will be a working
  lunch with The Truth Project Video.
• High School band students will watch The Truth
  Project video in the HS gym during B Block and
  then be dismissed to band during C Block.

Where?

• Classes will be held both on and off campus. Room
  numbers and site locations will be included after
  the registration process is completed.
• Seniors will have the opportunity to design an
  off campus internship for the duration of the
  Winterim- subject to terms and conditions (and
  Mr. Huckabys approval!)

How?

• Review the materials given to you at the end of
  this presentation with your parents.
• Select courses based on grade levels and
  interests.
• Fill out the registration forms
• Submit yours before your classmates to have
  priority scheduling!

Goals and Problems

• Goal- Have your registration and fees completed
  correctly and turned in at 745 am on November
  25th.
• Problem- Incorrect.
• Encourage participants to focus on the issues and
  assign priorities.

Solutions and Opportunities

• Invite comments and ideas from the audience.
• Record and display their comments regarding
  action plans and solutions.
• Invite participants to prioritize options.

• Ensure understanding- your questions?
• Describe first steps- read your packets, discuss
  with your family, register for classes, submit
  your materials at 745am on November 25.
• Pick up your materials upon dismissal.
