Tirimbina and Neotropical Tent-roosting Bats The
Case of the White Architects

Costa Rican Biologist
Bernal Rodriguez Herrera is a biologist from the
Tirimbina Rainforest Center in Costa Rica. His
presentation will identify the advantages of this
reserve for the development of research projects
in various fields of biology. Herrera will also
introduce the audience to important aspects of
the natural history of Neotropical bats,
including how they modify leaves to build
refuges, or tents. Research results of one
specific investigation concerning Neotropical
bats in Tirimbina will also be explained. Rodrigu
ez Herrera is finishing his Ph.D. studies at the
Instituto de Ecología at UNAM, Mexico. He has
authored many articles concerning mammals and
co-authored the book Bats of Costa Rica, and
recently, Neotropical Tent-roosting bats. He is
currently the Scientific Director at La Tirimbina
Biological Reserve and a professor of Mammalogy
in the School of Biology at University of Costa
Rica. He is one of the founders of the
Association for the Conservation of Bats of Costa
Rica.
From 500-600 pm, there will be an
informational session regarding Tirimbina and
internships offered. Tirimbina Rainforest Center
is the first stop on the Costa Rica Tropical
Ecology winterim offered through the CNR.
