Main Idea The book is about Esperanza and Mama

• While they where living in California they have a
  dust storm
  
• Miguel brings Abuelita to California

  are rich or poor just as long as you like you for
  how you are.

Setting

• They are living in California. And they have to
  work to save a enough money to bring Abuelita
  from Mexico. When Mama gets sick Esperanza takes
  over and raises enough money to bring Abuelita.
  Miguel takes the money from Esperanza and goes to
  Mexico to bring Abuelita back with him.

Mama

• Mama has long black hair, brown eyes, skinny, and
  she is also tall. She is every brave and she
  watches over Esperanza. She was also brave when
  they had to move to California. In the story Mama
  was brave when Papa died. In the story Mama is
  Esperanzas mom. She is also the wife of Papa.

Esperanza

• Esperanza has long black hair, brownish
  blackish eyes, dark color skin, skinny, and tall.
  She was also brave when Papa died. Also when they
  had to move. She was brave while Mama was sick.
  And while Mama was sick she worked to bring
  Abuelita to California. She is the main character
  in the story.

Miguel

• Miguel is young, tall, brave, strong boy. He has
  short brown hair, brown eyes, and skinny. In the
  story Miguel is brave when they move and he is
  trying to get a job at the railroad. He is brave
  with Esperanza when Mama is sick. He takes
  Esperanza to the hospital to see Mama and takes
  her to the grocery store. And when Esperanza
  raises enough money to bring Abuelita to
  California.

• tamales- Esperanza held a valise filled with
  clothes, a small package of tamales, and her doll
  from Papa. Its a Spanish food.
  
• La cosecha- La cosecha said Papa- it means
  harvest
  
• Un campesino- he was un campesino, a field
  servant- it mean a field servant
  
• La cenicienta Cinderella she laughed- its a
  Spanish word for Cinderella
  
• Mi reina- when their paths crossed ,he nodded and
  said politely Mi reina my queen- it means my
  queen in Spanish

Dust bowl

• The Dust Bowl of the 1930s lasted about a decade.
  
  
• Its primary area of impact was on the southern
  Plains.
  
• The northern Plains were not so badly effected
• In 1931Severe drought hits the mid western and
  southern plains.
  
• In 1932 the number of dust storms is increasing.
