from a Hispanic cultural perspective La Platica

who participate in the dialogue - This philosophy was made by Brazilian

- The word Hispanic is used to refer to any person
who comes from Spain, America colonized by
Spanish or roots Spain and Americas. - Many people in US prefer to use the word Latino
to refer to these group. - For the proposes of the HIV/AIDS Prevention
Program to TWO terms are considered synonymous. - Use the term that is most appropriate for your
group of community session.

includes a number of Hispanic people. - Make separate session for them to address
specific needs - Language (dialects)
- Level of Education
- Men of Women groups
- The United States have various communities and
ethnic groups whose culture differ, it is
important, that you demonstrate cultural
sensitivity, specificity and competence.

- Be aware that every group/community has it own
set of values, attitudes and beliefs. - Share facts in neutral ways that do not challenge
the values and beliefs of any group/individual. - Cultural Specificity
- Consider the languages, customs, world views, and
spiritual views and gender roles of the target
communities. - Use the cultural values and concerns of the
target audience to construct and facilitate HIV
messages.
