Great Mosque, Cordoba. This mosque was
commissioned by Abd ar- Rahman I (first Muslim
ruler of Spain) in 785 for his capital and begun
in 786-87. It was enlarged in 832- 848, 961, and
987. In the 13th century, Christians gained
