Standards of Excellence Overview
  • Implemented in the 2000-2001 school year
  • Provides clear performance standards for students
  • Designed to ensure students are prepared for
    success post middle school
  • Offers effective academic interventions for all
    students
  • Provides frequent monitoring of progress (staff
    and parents)

SOE Expectations
  • The expectation at North Tapps Middle School
    is that by one week prior to graduation, students
    must earn 17 or more points to meet Dieringer
    School District Standards.

Laying the FoundationH.S. Graduation
Requirements
  • Pass reading, writing, and math on the WASL, or a
    state-approved alternative. (H.S. diploma or CAA)
  • OR
  • Pass reading and writing on WASL OR a state
    approved alternative AND, if a student failed the
    math WASL, meet the math requirement by passing a
    yearlong course in math after 11th grade. The
    student must also retake the math WASL. (A
    student who fails the test but passes 2 semesters
    of math as a senior will earn a diploma.)

H.S. Graduation Requirements continued
  • Meet minimum credit requirements established by
    the school district.
  • Complete a culminating or senior project
    demonstrating knowledge and skills in a variety
    of ways. The requirements vary by district, but
    typical projects include a research paper, oral
    presentation, and an internship or community
    service.
  • Write a high school and beyond plan that
    details the students plans for the year
    following graduation. Seniors should have been
    working on this since 9th grade.
  • Note All of the high school graduation
    requirements are closely aligned with projects,
    exams, and activities required of students to
    meet NTMS Standards of Excellence.
