Title: Fossil Fuels and Thermal Energy

1
Fossil Fuels and Thermal Pollution
  • Group 3

2
What about fossil fuels and thermal pollution?
  • Overuse of fossil fuels and factories burning
fossil fuels, causing thermal pollution, can
    really hurt our environment greatly.

3
About Fossil Fuels.
  • Fossil Fuels are nonrenewable resources that are
formed by decayed plants and animals.
  • Ex. oil, coal, petroleum and natural gas

4

Fossil Fuels
  • Nonrenewable resources- resources that can NOT be
replaced in our lifetime. (ex. coal, oil, natural
    gas)
  • Renewable resources- resources that can be
replaced in our lifetime. (ex. trees, water, and
    solar power)

5
Conservation of Fossil Fuels
  • Some ways to conserve fossil fuels would be
  • 1. Use dishwashers for full loads only or wash
    them by hand.
  • 2. Take quick showers instead of a bath.
  • 3. Turn refrigerators to a lower temperature.
  • 4. Turn off objects when they are not in use.

6
Thermal Pollution
  • Thermal Pollution- an increase in temperature
caused when cold water that is used to cool
nuclear power plants is released into lakes or
rivers, or heat is released into the air.

Thermal Pollution
Danger
  • Thermal Pollution can cause many environmental
    hazards.
  • For example, some fish can not survive drastic
temperature changes and die from it. It also can
raise the temperature of the air too causing it
    to be hotter.

8
There are to the problem!
solutions
  • A great solution for thermal pollution would be
to have power plants get a cooling tower. If they
cool the water or air before sending it out into
the lake, rivers, or the air then it wouldnt
    cause temperature change.

9
Can we do anything about it?
  • There are many things we can do to conserve our
fossil fuels and stop thermal pollution.
