Letter
  • Dear Parents/Guardians,
  • Following an extensive review of the PE
curriculum, a task group of teachers and physical
education team put together materials for a
fitness assessment program using the Fitnessgram
assessment tool. This program will be piloted
this Spring in grades 4 and 5. Next year all
students will have a fitness assessment in order
to meet the performance indicators as stated in
the State of Maine Learning Results.
  • A fitness assessment tests the 5 components of
    physical fitness. These components include,
    cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength,
    muscular endurance, body composition, and
flexibility. All assessment results will be kept
confidential and shared with the student and the
    students parent/guardian. Fitness assessment
    testing provides valuable personal health
information to help students achieve their
    personal best.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate
to call Kerrilyn Marzullo, School Health
Coordinator for SAD 22 at 207-949-2006. If you
do not wish to have your child participate in the
unit, please sign and return this form to school
no later than __. There is no need to return the
form if your child is participating.
  • We believe that this unit is an integral part of
your childs physical education. If your child
does not participate, he or she will be given and
alternate activity for the testing period.
  • Sincerely,
  • Kerrilyn H. Marzullo

Follow Up Letter
  • Dear Parents/Guardians,
  • On May 15, 2009 the physical education staff
hosted a fun Celebrating Health Fitness Day
that celebrated your childs health fitness.
This year we piloted the program in grades 4 and
5 at the Weatherbee and Smith Schools. The day
was a huge success. The kids had so much fun, and
    the physical educators gathered important
information that will help with your childs
physical education program. This Program is
projected to be expanded to the middle schools
    next year.
  • Physical educators assessed your childs physical
health by using the FitnessGram tool. The
FitnessGram reports how healthy your child is in
the 5 component areas of physical fitness which
    are cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength,
    muscular endurance, body composition, and
flexibility. Your childs assessment results are
included with this letter. Please take a moment
to go over the results with your child. There
are recommendations provided that will give your
child information to help them make healthy
    lifestyle changes.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate
to call Kerrilyn Marzullo, School Health
Coordinator for SAD 22, at 207-949-2006.
  • Sincerely,
  • Russell Bartlett
