Site. (Permanent and Project positions are
posted automatically).
Rate Fixed or Range You can choose whether the
rate will be fixed or in a range. The high end
of the range cannot exceed the minimum on the
permanent grid.

position. The knowledge skills listed must be
appropriate for a limited term employee.

SSN Once SSN is entered, if the applicant has a
prior UW appointment, much of the remaining
information fills in automatically. Dont use
SSN Unknown.
LTE Max Rate Shows you what the minimum of the
permanent pay range is.
LTE Begin Date Must be a future date. The LTE
may not begin until the position has been Class
Approved.
Hourly Rate The maximum LTE hourly rate is the
minimum of the permanent pay range. Possible
Exception an Applicant with prior permanent
state service
Above LTE Maximum If you have an exception, you
must provide a justification. Complete only when
applicable.

Prior Appt Information If the applicant has a
prior appointment with the UW, you can click this
button and select the most recent appointment.
If the applicant has a prior appointment with
another state agency, you will have to enter the
information manually.
15Step 2 MSHR Approves/Rejects Applicant
Note LTE may not be paid for hours worked
before he/she is approved. If an applicant is
not approved, and he/she has already begun
working, the department is responsible.
16LTE Transactions in CHRIS History
HR Transaction Applicant Approved LTE may not
be paid if LTE applicant is not approved.
HR Transaction Class Approved Employee may
not start until the day after the LTE Tran is
Class Approved.
17Step 3 Appointment Letter
Department may choose to write an appointment
letter. This is a good way to clarify
benefits, etc. A sample letter is included at
the end of this packet and will be available
online.
18Step 4 Department prints Request to Recruit Form
and PD
- The original Request to Recruit form with
original signatures needs to be submitted with or
before the IADS. - The IADS will not be routed to Medical School
Payroll until the original of this form is
received.

Appointment Letter, however we recommend using
our template instead
Print All Associate Reports will print the PD and
the Request to Recruit Form

20Step 5 Department submits LTE Recruitment
Materials to MSHR
- IADS (verified by Edwinna and routed to Linda L.)
- Request to Recruit Form
- One copy of the printed PD (does not have to be
signed) - Copy of the appointment letter (if one was given)
21A Note on LTE Hours
LTEs are not permitted to exceed 1,043 hours in
a given LTE appointment within 26 consecutive pay
periods (one year). A supervisor may be subject
to disciplinary action if one of the LTEs he or
she supervises exceeds the maximum hours
permitted.
22Step 6 Benefits I-9 Orientation
- Benefits I-9 Orientation are the
responsibility of the department.

- All departments must use the CHRIS System
- for all LTE Transactions starting April 1, 2003.
