Title: The Basics of Islam
1The Basics of Islam
2ASSALAMU ALAYKUM
- ASSALAMU ALAYKUM
- to you all, which means
- Peace be on you
- to your faces Ive seen.
- Im here to tell you,
- so lets take a peek
- at things in Islam
- that you want to seek.
- Lets start with the basics,
- just a simple tour,
- the pillars of Islam,
- until you are sure.

3SHAHADA
- The first is SHAHADA,
- a declaration to say
- that God is the One
- to whom Muslims pray.
- But thats not all,
- theres more, just a bit,
- that Muhammed is His messenger
- and His last Prophet.
4SALAH
- The second one is SALAH,
- which means to pray,
- and Muslims perform it
- five times a day.
5SAWM
- The third one is SAWM,
- and that means to fast
- from dawn until dusk
- til the whole month has passed.
6ZAKAH
- The fourth one is ZAKAH,
- a tax Muslims pay,
- to help the poor, the unfortunate,
- and those in dismay.
7HAJJ
- The fifth one is HAJJ,
- and its a favorite of mine,
- Its pilgrimage to Mecca
- just once in a lifetime.
8SHAHADA
HAJJ
- Wow! That was it,
- those were the five!
- But lets look in deeper,
- yes lets take a dive!
- Go back to SHAHADA,
- a declaration to say
- that Allah is the Only
- to whom Muslims pray.
- But dont forget Muhammed,
- yes it was he
- who received revelations
- through Angel Gabriel.
SALAH
SAWM
ZAKAH
9The revelations were meant as a guidance to
man, and they make up the Book, the Holy
Quran. The Prophets life is called SUNNAH and he
once did say Follow Quran and my life, and you
wont go astray.
10Now look at SALAH, which means to pray, and as I
said, its five times a day. The first is at
dawn, right before the sun to remember first that
God is one.
11The second is at noon, pray at home or
outside, and always remember that from God you
cant hide. But of course on a Friday then its
even more fun that you go to a Mosque and pray
with everyone.
12The mid-afternoon prayer might be easy to
forget, but the Quran says remember the great
reward that youll get. The fourth one at
sunset should be done right away, cause if it
gets too dark, then it will be too late.
13The fifth one is at night, just before you sleep,
To remember last that your soul God will keep.
14The third pillar is SAWM for a whole month I
said and it just means to fast, thats not all
you can bet. From dawn until dusk not a bite do
you eat, except if youre young to do such a feat.
15Muslim parents will fast, and all of their
friends, cause its religion not one of those
trends.
16Muslims can eat at sunset, thats called
IFTAAR, and SOHOOR is at night before the end of
the stars. The month that we fast is called
RAMADAN. Following the moon, thats month nine
that were on.
17At the end when its done, a celebration comes to
mind. The EID-UL-FITR, yes its one of a
kind. Full of worship, happiness, and money for
the poor, gifts for the kids, and lots lots more.
18In the morning at the Mosque, a special prayer is
done. Then its time for hugs and visits for
everyone. The EID is a time when all Muslims
say No matter your background, youre my friend
today.
19The fourth pillar is ZAKAH, a tax Muslims pay for
the poor, the unfortunate, and those in
dismay. Over one year just offer two-and-a-half
percent of money and assets that you have not
spent. This is paid in Ramadan, but before the
EID, the more the better, the nicer the deed.
20The last pillar is HAJJ, I said its a favorite
of mine, cause its pilgrimage to Mecca just
once in a lifetime. We all go to plead, we all go
to pray, that all of our sins will be washed away.
21At the HAJJ, all the people there are the
same, no matter who you see. All dressed in
white, and ready to pray, there are rituals to
do, in a specific way!
22Well, there they are, the basics of Islam.
