• A retired Salt Lake physician Joseph Stobbe never
  expected to come to this place again. He nearly
  died twice here in Metzervisse France.

• 60 years ago this month, a bullet almost ended
  his life as a platoon sergeant general George
  Pattons 3rd army entered the village to drive
  out occupying Nazi Forces.

• Three years ago, while on vacation to retrace his
  path during the war. Stobbe was gravely injured
  again as he entered Metzervisse.

• On the 60th aniversery of the liberation of their
  village, the people of Metzervisse thronged
  Joseph Stobbe in the little square where they
  conferred upon him a bit of immorality he never
  could have anticipated.

• Stobbe says No, its just an interesting
  happening. These people are just as friendly as
  though I won the war for them. Obviously I
  didnt.

• The recognition for Stobbe capped on ambitious
  commemoration of the liberation of the Moselle
  region of France. A commoration produced by an
  improbable sequence events that brought together
  as friends. A World War II U.S. Army veteran from
  Utah and an energetic, patriotic police chief in
  the north east of France Division.

• For Stobbe, the story began in June,1944 when he
  landed on Utah Beach in Normandy with the U.S.
  armys 90th infantry veteran from Utah and an
  energetic, patriotic police chief in the north
  east of France Division.

• As his platoon arrived Metzervisse, it
  encountered machinegun and bazooka fire from the
  windows of a house. In the assult to drive the
  Nazi snipers from the building
