Title: War Of Independence
1Pennsylvania 229 Years Ago.
Some years passed and England went to war against
the French and the Indians. After that war, the
British were in a big debt and needed money. They
began taxing the colonies by making different
laws. But the colonists didnt want to pay the
taxes. One day, the British went to Concord,
Massachusetts, to take ammunition that belonged
to the colonists. Paul Revere saw that the
British were going to Concord and he rode to
Concord and said the British are coming. The
colonists then formed a little army so that they
could defend themselves against the British. When
the British came, the colonists fired The shot
heard around the world and THE WAR OF
INDPENDENCE began..

The British Came!!!

2George Washington
- . George Washington was born on February 22,
1732. He was a soldier in the war between England
on one side and France and the Indians on the
other side. Many thought that George Washington
should have been the leader in this war, but he
wasnt. Instead, he became the leader when the
colonists were in war with the British. This
Revolutionary War happened because the British
needed money, as they were in a big debt. But the
colonists didnt think it was right to pay the
taxes required by the British, so they made war
against the British. The army was made up of
simple voluntary men who wanted to fight for
freedom. George Washington fought for eight
years with his poorly trained army. However,
General Washington lost more wars than he won.
But he did not give up!!!! He assembled his
troops and made them go through hunger and
defeat, before he led them to victory. George
Washington was officer from April 30, 1789 to
March 3, 1797. He died at the age of 67. -
3The Battle of Brandy Wine
- With the Battle of Brandywine on September
11,1777, ended a long period of frustration for
the British in North America. The British
commander spent the first part of the summer
campaign of 1777 in New Jersey, trying to catch
Washington and finally wipe out the main American
army. - The attack began at about four oclock, and then
hell broke out. Eighty nine men of the British
were killed and four hundred and eighty eight
were woundedone thousands three hundred
Americans were killed, five hundred were wounded
and four hundred were captured. In Philadelphia,
Americans were defeated badly..

5The Battle of Germantown
- Germantown is located about five miles northwest
of Philadelphia. The British marched unopposed
into Philadelphia on September 26. Most citizens
and the Continental Congress had left the city a
week before the British came. The British kept
three thousand men in Philadelphia and put the
remaining in Germantown. Another three thousand
were placed along the Delaware River to assist
the British. George Washington was in command of
eleven thousand men, including three thousand
militiamen. The British force was familiar with
the area, while the Americans were not. Seventy
men on the British side got killed, four hundred
wounded and fourteen missing. On the American
side there were one hundred and fifty two killed,
five hundred and twenty one wounded and almost
four hundred missing. The British were impressed
with the skills of the Americans after the defeat
in Brandywine.
6The Winter at Valley Forge
- To see men without clothes to cover themselves
and without any house or hut to cover them with,
without any shoes, is a proof of patience and
obedience which, in my opinion, cant be
paralleled. those are the words of George
Washington at Valley Forge, December 25, 1777. - Of all the places the army has been, in the War
of Independence, none gives a better picture of
suffering, sacrificing and ultimate triumph than
Valley Forge. No battle was fought in Valley
Forge, but during the winter of 1777 1778,
thousands of American soldiers died here in the
struggle to survive against hunger, disease and
the force of nature. Washington and his army
marched 29 kilometers through 15 centimeters of
snow, until they entered Valley Forge. The
soldiers received water and bread, made out of
flour and water. On the way, hundreds of horses
starved to death. Long marches had destroyed the
shoes of the soldiers. Today Valley Forge has an
academy for males and females. The academy is
training people to get into the military service.
7Victory at Yorktown
- Yorktown is a very small village, but it is still
very important in America, because it was here
that the battle of the American Revolution was
won by George Washington, in 1781, after lord
Cornwallis surrendered his huge army to the
American and French allies on October 19, 1781.
Soon the British signed the peace treaty and the
13 colonies became the United States of America.
