What you need

• Just a simple portable radio
• Knowledge of VHF propagation is helpful
• Simple navigation skills
• A topographical map will do wonders
• And now for some directional antennas

Safety First

• Dont drive and read the map together!
• Two person teams work better
• Schedule stops in safe places when the fox is due
  to transmit

Now what?

• Use a map to track your progress
• Use a straight edge to mark your bearings
• Use terrain to your advantage, because on 2m, a
  straight line isnt always straight!
• Work the right angles on the map

• You can use your body to null the signal
• Use headphones/earphones to listen
• You can remove your antenna
• You can tune your radio off frequency
• Trust your eyes! Look for it!
