OBJECTIVES
- To assist in improving the livelihoods of poor
people primarily in urban areas of the
Mediterranean, particularly in relation to water
and sanitation
- To contribute in designing guidelines on
social performance of water pricing
- Develop guidelines and expertise aiming to
facilitate - the integration of poverty reduction components
and - impact on poverty assessments in major water
projects
- Develop functional tripartite initiatives to
facilitate regional and national investment on
Water and Poverty initiatives

OBJECTIVES - More specifically the WPF will
- Elaborate and implement a Plan of Action
for compatible economic instruments and
incentives for securing a min amount of
safe water per capita in urban areas at low
price for building in poverty abatement
components in on-going and new bilateral
and multilateral projects for water
sanitation for contingency plans and for
reduction of risks from floods for
appropriate formal and informal education
for appropriate capacity building schemes

EXPECTED RESULTS
- Act as a regional model forum for synergies
to promote integration of poverty abatement
components in projects for water sanitation
- Operate as a think tank to provide expertise
and insight
- Intervene at local level and in 12 specific
project areas applying - the WPF methodologies
- Act as an observatory of investments on water
and their alignment with sustainability
indicators
- Act as a capacity building channel on IWRM and
poverty eradication
- Support sectoral triple bottom line benchmarking
- Raise awareness and educate on best practices
- Assist countries to raise the issue higher in
their national agendas
