• Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from
  a persons weight and height. BMI provides a
  reliable indicator of body fatness for most
  people and is used to screen for weight
  categories that may lead to health problems.

Wellness Conference Objectives

• Present school specific statistics of initial
  BMI data collection for the region.
• Facilitate an awareness and understanding of
  the wellness policy.
• Identify implementation strategies and
  processes, and provide information regarding
  support networks/resources.

Ongoing Wellness Education

• Monthly professional development sessions from
  February to May 2008 with wellness topics based
  on feedback from the conference together with the
  latest wellness information.
• Coordinate/distribute existing resource material
  with professional development topics i.e. skin
  cancer, tobacco use, heart disease, cancer
  prevention through nutrition and physical
  activity.
