From Vision To Concept
  • Vision for a leadership training program for
    State Office of Rural Health staff members was
    presented to NOSORH Board members in February
    2007 by Alison Hughes, then the organizations
    President.
  • The concept for the NOSORH Leadership Training
    Institute was presented in more detail to the
    members at the 2007 annual meeting and popularly
    accepted at the 2008 annual meeting.

From Concept to Implementation
  • Collaborative approach between NOSORH and
    potential partners on behalf of staff members of
    State Offices of Rural Health.
  • Identified and initial discussion with 4
    potential Leadership teaching partners
    including
  • National Rural Health Association
  • The Heartland Center for Leadership Development
  • The National Public Health Leadership Institute
  • The Washington Advisory Group
  • The Advisory Board Company (referred by Terry
    Hill)
  • Membership survey undertaken

Where We Are Now
  • An preliminary feasibility study was conducted by
    Heartland Center for Leadership Development to
    assist with developing SORH-specific leadership
    curricula.
  • Survey results were shared with the membership.
  • Caroline Ford and Alison Hughes appointed as
    NOSORH co-liaisons for the Leadership Training
    Institute.

Heartland Center for Leadership Development
  • Heartland Center activities focus on leadership
    training, citizen participation, community
    planning, facilitation, evaluation and curriculum
    development. Programs and publications stress the
    critical role played by local leadership as
    communities and organizations build capacity for
    sustainable development.
  • Each year the Heartland Center works with people
    from approximately 300 communities, and is
    recognized internationally as an innovator of
    creative strategies for community revitalization.
