Deborah LaBelle is a Senior Soros Justice Fellow, a Ford Foundation Arts for Justice Fellow, and the first American to be named a Human Rights Monitor by Human Rights Watch for her work on behalf of detained women and girls.

Deborah LaBelle’s professional experience is incredibly vast and extensive. She is currently working for multiple human rights organizations, including the United States Human Rights Network, ICCPR Taskforce, Human Rights Watch Monitor, and in resourceful positions like director, Juvenile Life Without Parole Initiative, ACLU Michigan and as partner, Law Offices of Deborah LaBelle, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Through her experience and work, Deborah LaBelle has been able to fight for different stressed groups of people facing discrimination and suffering through the problems of intersectionality.

Deborah LaBelle is the Director of the ACLU of Michigan's Juvenile Life Without Parole Initiative, the Coordinator of Michigan's Juvenile Mitigation Access Committee, and the co-founder of the national Campaign for Fair Sentencing of Youth and the Youth Justice Fund.

Deborah LaBelle was involved in several instances and played an essential role in the team's efforts to solve the cases. She has represented clients in front of the United States Supreme Court and international forums.

Deborah LaBelle also went to Wayne State University Law School, J.D. She is on various Advisory Boards at the moment including American Bar Association, Corrections Committee.

Deborah LaBelle has done a lot of work on youth and the issues they confront when exercising their human rights.

In addition to her private practice, Deborah LaBelle is the Director of the Juvenile Life Without Parole Initiative for the ACLU of Michigan and Coordinator of Michigan’s Juvenile Mitigation Access Committee, and co-founder of the national Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth and the Youth Justice Fund.
