What Country Founded your Colony?

• In 1630 England founded the Massachusetts Bay
  Colony.

• This is now known as Boston, Massachusetts.

Was the colony successful?

• The colony was successful because it started with
  only a few thousand and grew to be what is now
  the city of Boston. Massachusetts became the 6th
  state to ratify the constitution.

Who was the leader?

• John Winthrop became leader in 1630. When he
  arrived,a colony of Puritans was already there.

How did they get along with the Indians?

• The Puritans mistrusted the Indians.
• They brought soldiers with them for protection.
• In 1637, they went to war with the Pequots.
