The way the television works
  • The way television works is that
  • variations in light from an object produce
    electric impulses in a photo-electric cell.
    These electrical impulses are magnified
    enormously by a valve. The impulses can be
    trapped by a radio but instead of going through a
    loud-speaker, they are fed into a cathode ray
    tube. There they form tiny streams of electrons
    that impinge on a chemically-treated screen, on
    which the object is reconstituted by means of
    glowing dots.
