  • There are several words in the English language
    that cause writers some degree of trouble.
  • Often they are used improperly during
    conversation and that improper use is transferred
    into writing.

Confusing Words
  • All Together- means everyone or everything is in
    the same place.
  • EX We are all together in the same room.
  • Altogether- means complete or in total.
  • EX Altogether, there are 31 students.

  • Among- to be in the middle of three or more
    objects.
  • EX The student was among his friends.
  • Between- to be in the middle of exactly two
    objects.
  • EX You seem to be between a rock and hard place.

  • Its- a contraction for it is.
  • EX Its a beautiful day outside.
  • Its- a non-gender specific possessive pronoun.
  • EX The dog buried its bone in the back yard.

  • Accept- to take or acknowledge, to allow into a
    group.
  • EX I accept your job offer.
  • Except- to exclude, leave out, or hold something
    out.
  • EX Everyone is going to the party, except Todd.

  • Weather- the state of nature outdoors
  • EX The weather has turned cold and caused it to
    snow.
  • Whether- a conjunction that shows alternatives.
  • EX I dont care whether we stay or go.

  • To- a preposition meaning a place.
  • EX I am going to the store.
  • Too- means a lot, also, often used when saying,
    too much.
  • EX This room is too cold. But, next door is
    cold, too.
  • Two- the second positive integer, 2.
  • EX The two friends played video games.

  • Theyre- contraction for They are.
  • EX Theyre here!
  • There- a location or place.
  • EX Over there is the shopping mall I like.
  • Their- a pronoun that shows ownership.
  • EX Their dog is very cute, but he bites
    strangers.

  • Our- a possessive plural pronoun
  • EX He is taking our car for a ride.
  • Are- a plural Be verb
  • EX We are taking his car for a ride.
  • Hour- a unit of time, 60 minutes
  • EX He is taking the car for an hour long ride.
