Opening of the West
  • The United States and Great Britain signed a
    treaty in 1846 defining the border of USA and
    Canada in the Oregon territory.
  • This was known as the Oregon Treaty
  • USA had full claim to the unoccupied land.

    and California trails to reap the profits from
    the Gold Rush of 1849 (We will discuss more in

    of land or to be their own boss avoiding the
    harsh working conditions of factories in the
    east.

  • IN 1818 Russia pulls its claim to the Oregon
    territory leaving the US and UK staking claims.
  • The treaty of 1846 established the 49th parallel
    as the permanent border to the Oregon Territory.

    be traversed by foot to reach the lands of the
