Carbohydrates
  • Carbohydrates are the primary source of energy.
  • Mainly from Plant sources
  • Whole Grains (important for fiber)
  • Fiber Non digestible (20-30g/day at age 5)
  • Two Types Simple and Complex
  • 4 calories per gram
  • All must be broken down into simple sugars for
    the body to absorb them.
  • Glucose, sucrose, fructose, maltose, lactose
    starch and cellulose.
