Basic Definition

• A sentence fragment is a part of a sentence that
  is punctuated as if it were a complete sentence
• Ex If I go to the store.

Missing Parts

• One cause of sentence fragments is missing parts
  of a sentence
• Can be lacking a subject, verb, or both.
• Chef Crum angered by the rejection
• No verb Chef Crum was angered by the rejection.
• Ex Soon, faced a guests disapproval
• No subject Soon, he faced a guests disapproval.

Phrases

• A phrase is a group of words that function as a
  part of speech and does not have a subject or
  verb.
• Phrases that stand alone are fragments.
• Ex The pretzel has a long history. Dating back
  to A.D. 610.
• Fix it The pretzel has a long history, dating
  back to A.D. 610.

Clauses

• A group of words that has a subject and a verb,
  but does not express a complete thought.
• Clauses on their own are fragments.
• Ex Although he is better known as Mark Twain.
• Fix it Although he is better known as Mark
  Twain, the authors name is Samuel Clemens.
