The Participle

• A verb that acts as an adjective

The Gerund

• A verb ending in -ing that acts as a noun.
• Swimming is a great sport.
• Walking is a fun hobby.

Infinitive

• To a verb used a noun, abverb, and adjective.
• His dream is to act
• To fly was a dream of man for many years.

Appositive

• A noun or pronoun placed beside another noun to
  modify that noun.
• That painting, the Mona Lisa, Is famous.

Subjunctive Mood

• Express wishes, commands, emotion, possibility,
  judgment, opinion, necessity, or statements that
  are contrary to fact at present.
• "I asked that it be done yesterday.
• If I had seen you, I definitely would have said
  hello.
• If I were to die tomorrow, then you would inherit
  everything.

• Express incomplete action in progress at a
  specific time
• John was playing tennis when Jane called him
