Functions

• Protects the body against infection, temperature
  change and other challenges to homeostasis

Organs/tissues/cells

• Skin
• Epidermis (Outermost layer, regenerates
  constantly and takes 4-6 weeks to completely
  regenerate , regulates the amount of water
  released by body)
• Dermis (middle layer, provides strength and
  elasticity to the skin, contains the hair
  follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous
  glands, apocrine glands, lymphatic
  vessels and blood vessels
• Hypodermis (lowermost layer, contains connective
  tissue and 50 of body fat, connects body and
  muscles to nerve and blood vessels)
• Hair
• Nails

Why is it important?

• Your body would fail to reach homeostasis
• Certain death (if you didnt die of hemorrhage
  then you would be prone to serious infection)
