Weekly Concept Friendship Essential Question
How can you make new friends feel welcome? This
week our class will focus on new friends and how
our communities can welcome them. We will also be
discussing the ways that new friends can add to
our lives. Here is an activity you can do with
your child to help reinforce the skills well be
practicing. Comprehension point of view
(attached) In this activity, you and your child
will compare your memories of the same event.
First, choose and discuss an event that you
shared. It could be a birthday, a holiday
celebration, or something you did together. Then
have your child write about the event from your
point of view while you write about it from his
or her point of view.

Question What kinds of stories do we tell?
This week our class will be focusing on the
kinds of stories we tell and why we tell them. We
will also be taking a look at how stories, such
as legends and myths, are a way of expressing a
culture. Here is an activity that you can do with
your child to help reinforce the skills well be
practicing. Comprehension point of view
(attached) In this activity, you and your child
read a story about what one person learned from
his friend. After reading, you use the questions
to begin a discussion of the story and identify
the narrators point of view.

5th Grade Math
Fourth grade wraps up with our chapter on
patterns and sequencing on Wednesday. Be sure to
review the vocabulary words that went home at the
beginning of the chapter. If you need another
copy let me know! Our next chapter is on
fractions. We will be learning how to model
fractions, fractions on a number line and
equivalent fractions in lowest terms to name a
few. A new vocabulary list will be coming home
next Monday as well.
Fifth grade wraps up our chapter on multiplying
and dividing decimals this week. Please be sure
to review the vocabulary words that went home at
the beginning of the chapter. If you need another
copy let me know! Our next chapter is on
expressions and patterns. We will learn about
numerical expressions, plotting ordered pairs on
a coordinate plane, and working backward to solve
problems. A new vocabulary list will come home
next Monday.
