Simple Sentences
  • Contains a subject and a verb.
  • Expresses a single complete thought.
  • contains 1 independent clause.
  • Usually does not have any punctuation.

Compound Sentences
  • Contains 2 independent clauses and is joined by
    either a coordinating conjunction, conjunctive
    adverb or a semicolon.
  • Coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS for, and,
    nor, but, or, yet, so) can join these two
    independent clauses.
  • Conjunctive adverbs (however, therefore, moreover
    ) can join these two independent clauses.
  • A semicolon () can join these two independent
    clauses.
  • Always has punctuation!!
