3Washington is the capital of the United States of
America.
It is located between the states of Virginia and
Maryland on the Potomac River.
4Washington was named after the first US President
George Washington. He selected the place
for the capital and Pierre L'Enfant a French
engineer designed the city.
5Washington was first settled in 1790 and since
1800 it has been the federal capital.
6O! say can you see by the dawn's early lightWhat
so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last
gleaming.Whose broad stripes and bright stars
through the perilous fight,O'er the ramparts we
watched were so gallantly streaming. And the
rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in
air,Gave proof through the night that our flag
was still there.Oh, say does that star-spangled
banner yet waveO'er the land of the free and the
home of the brave?
