• Information on the Internet is located on many
  millions of computers throughout the world.

Names that refer to the Internet

• The Information Superhighway - The Internet is
  like traveling on a highway to visit someones
  computer to get information. Every stop you make
  at a web page is like an exit off a highway.
• The World Wide Web - If you had to draw a
  picture of the Internet it would end up looking
  much like a spider web. The spider web would
  span across the world.

• Web Browser Software - Netscape Navigator or

URL Uniform Resource Locator

• Every web page has a unique URL or web address
  (much like your home address)
• Contains type of protocol followed by the
  computer name, directory and file name
• Most web pages begin with http//

Domain Name Domain Name Endings

• Domain Name - the unique name that identifies an
  Internet site.
• Domain Name Endings - refers to the type of
  website it represents.
• .com (commercial) .gov (government)
• .edu (education) .mil (military)
• .org (non profit) .net (network resources)
