  • One to the World is about connecting all
    students to the world by equipping them with a
    personal laptop.

The Vision and Goals
  • To engage our learners in an enriched learning
    environment.
  • We will educate students to become critical
    consumers and producers of information.
  • We will promote responsible and safe use of
    technology.

Tentative Long Term Roll Out Plan
  • This initiative is a long term plan that will
    see all students in Grades 5 12 be equipped
    with a personal laptop over the next six years.
  • Year 1 2013-2014 Grades 5 6
  • Year 2 2014-2015 Grades 5 8
  • Year 3 2015-2016 Grades 5 9 (Grade 9 will get
    new device)
  • Year 4 2016-2017 Grades 5 9 (Grade 9 will get
    2nd device after 3rd year)
  • Year 5 2017-2018 Grades 5 9 (Grade 9 2nd
    device)
  • Year 6 2018-2019 Grades 5 9 (Grade 9 2nd
    device)
  • ALL STUDENTS GRADE 5-12 HAVE A
    LAPTOP

If your child is entering Grade 8 in September
2014
  • September 2014 receive 1st laptop
  • Sign user agreement
  • Pay 200.00 user fee
  • June 2015 return 1st laptop in good condition
  • September 2015 receive new device for Grade 9
  • September 2015 re-sign a new agreement for the
    new device
  • No cost to receive the new device

What does the partnership look like?
  • The school division agrees to purchase the
    laptops, in partnership with parents, and
    distribute the laptops to the students.
  • Parents will pay a user fee of 200.00.
  • Students have exclusive access to their laptop
    but the laptop remains property of the school
    division until the end of the agreement.
  • By paying the user fee the students have the
  • option of keeping their assigned laptop at
  • the end of the agreement.

What will we do?
  • We will teach and model expectations and rules.
  • We will teach patience, problem solving and
    collaboration skills.
  • We will promote the learning for all and help
    facilitate the teaching of each other.
  • We will provide feedback and support as we
    navigate through this journey.
  • We will ensure a balance of time with and
  • without technology while at school.

What will we do?
  • We will provide clear and concise expectations.
  • We will monitor use while at school.
  • We will provide programming and education on
    appropriate and respectable use of social media.
  • We will provide technical support.
  • We will provide software support where possible
    and appropriate.
  • We will provide email and cloud storage with
    usernames and password protected accounts.

What students will do
  • Students will adhere to the acceptable use
    agreement and the schools policy on acceptable
    use of technology.
  • Students will act responsibly with the use,
    storage and transportation of their laptop.
  • Students will report any suspicious or
    inappropriate behavior.
  • Students will use their laptop as a learning tool
  • and understand the consequences for
  • unacceptable use.

What parents will do
  • Parents will partner with the school division by
    agreeing to the regulations set out in the user
    agreements.
  • Parents agree to pay the 200.00 user fee.
  • Parents will support the school in enforcing
    acceptable use of the laptop while at home.
  • Parents will report any inappropriate use of
    technology to the school.
  • Parents will monitor the use of the laptop by
  • their child outside of school hours.

  • 85 of students and 93 of parents reported
  • students using their laptops for no more than
  • 60 minutes a day at home.

What are some lesson learned?
  • Students reported using their laptops in all
    subject
  • areas.
  • 92 of students reported that learning to use
    their
  • laptops was easy or extremely easy.
  • 87 of students reported that the Lenovo Thinkpad
  • met their learning needs.
  • 77 of parents reported that the 200 fee was
  • reasonable and 88 reported one of the three
  • financing options met their needs.

What are some lesson learned?
  • Over 95 of students reported they were
    respecting
  • their user agreements.
  • 79 of students and 78 of parents reported that
    they
  • were sharing information with each other about
  • how students were using the laptops as a learning
    tool.
  • 83 of students and 88 of parents reported the
  • primary use for the laptops at home was
  • homework, which was the highest reported
  • reason for use.
