• Begin with a strong thesis statement that states
  your opinion or assertion.
• This is the idea that you want to convince
  readers to agree with or the action that you want
  them to take.
• Make logical, emotional, or ethical appeals to
  persuade your readers.
• You might appeal to logic by using clear
  reasoning, providing facts, and other evidence
  emotion by using strong words with strong
  connotations and ethical concerns by discussing
  values and other moral issues.
• Have a logical structure. Put arguments in order
  of weakest strongest.
• Support your opinion or assertion.
• Use case studies, examples, anecdotes, analogies,
  etc. Show that this is not merely your opinion
  but an opinion that other thoughtful individuals
  share.
• Address your audience.
• Understand possible counter-arguments and try to
  address them.

• A persuasive composition seeks to persuade
  readers to do something or convince readers to
  believe something. Types of persuasive you might
  read include newspaper editorials and tributes,
  for example.
