Courageous Leadership
By enacting the Michigan Merit Curriculum, the
Michigan Legislature and Governor Granholmthe
State Board of Education and the Department of
Education have catapulted Michigan from the state
that demanded among the leastto one of the
states that demands the most. Enacting Michigan
Merit Curriculum required political leadership
and courage. Implementing it well will require
the skill and dedication of Michigans educators,
a challenge they are surely up to. Michael
