  • Spartas way of expanding its territory involved
    invading and conquering neighbors 600 B.C.
  • Those conquered became slaves (helots) and did
    all the work in Sparta
  • Helots owned by Sparta and also expected to fight
    for Sparta
  • Slaves were brutally repressed and spied on to
    prevent rebellion
