1
God - of Providence
  • Forethought (pro, before, noeo, to think), is
translated providence in Acts 242 (foresight,
NKJV) provision in Rom. 1314 (W.E.
Vine). Neither is talking about God, but He acts
    providentially.

2
God Works Today
  • His work of creation is finished, Gen.
    22,3 Heb. 44,10
  • His work is not finished, Jn. 517
  • Humanist Manifesto We can discover no divine
purpose or providence for the human species.
While there is much that we do not know, humans
are responsible for what we are or will become.
No deity will save us we must save ourselves

3
General Providence
  • All things consist (are upheld), Col.
    117 Heb. 13
  • We speak of laws of nature God governs by
laws He ordained, but He may intervene and
    overrule those if He desires.
  • He may do so miraculously or providentially.

4
Miraculous Manna
  • God rained bread from heaven (Ex.
    164)
  • Gathered enough for one day except on Friday
    (Ex. 1614-24)
  • Typical of another miraculous bread (Jn.
    630-35,49,50)

5
Miraculous - fire
  • Elijah prayed for fire Then the fire of the
Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and
the wood and the stones and the dust, and it
licked up the water that was in the trench (1
    Kgs. 1838).
  • The prophets of Baal could not produce fire, 1
    Kgs. 1821-29

6
Births - Miraculous Providential
  • Birth of Jesus to a virgin, (a miracle)
Mt. 123 Behold, a virgin shall be with child,
and bear a Son, and they shall call His name
Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.
  • Birth of Samuel, (providential)
    1 Sam. 110-20

7
Healings - Miraculous Providential
  • Miraculous - The man born blind, Jn.
    91-7
  • The lame man, Acts 31-8
  • Providential prosperity and health, 3
    Jn. 2

8
Providential Acts in O.T.
  • The ram Abram offered, Gen. 2212-14
  • Joseph in Egypt, Gen. 455-8
  • Physical blessings, Dt. 1113-17

9
Providential Acts in N.T.
  • Jesus taught us to ask, seek and knock (Mt.
    77-11)
  • Whatever He teaches us to ask for He will
listen and act as He wills
  • Pray for open doors, Col. 42-4
  • Pray for rulers, 1 Tim. 21,2
  • Pray about personal plans, Jas. 413-15
  • Pray for wisdom, Jas. 15,6

10
Conclusion
  • Be careful about blaming God for consequences of
selfish decisions. He doesnt lead us to violate
    His will.
  • May not know how He will give what we ask, find
what we seek, or when the door will be opened to
    our knock
  • It is our job to ask, seek and knock, and Gods
    to provide!
