is bringing our lives into balance with what God
desires and wills. It is balancing our hearts
cry with the heart of God. What does God
desire? What does God will? What is our hearts

21Cultural Commission
- Culture is the sum total of an associated group
of peoples - Interaction with eternity The attempt to have a
perfect relationship with God - Interaction with one another The attempt to
have perfect relationships with others - Interaction with their environment The attempt
to have a perfect relationship with the creation - Notice how the Edenic Cry defines culture
The Christian in Todays Culture

22Cultural Commission
Reforming our Culture requires that we shape it
in such a way that people can experience a
perfect relationship with God, with one another,
and with creation. It is founded on the belief
that the culture should satisfy our Edenic
Cry Should it?
The Christian in Todays Culture
Developing a Christian Worldview
23Cultural Commission
Colson asserts that Christians are commanded in
the Scriptures, not only by the Great Commission
to make disciples, but also by the Cultural
Commission to reform our culture and bring it
under the Lordship of Christ and the Laws of
God. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
The Christian in Todays Culture

25Cultural Commission

The Christian in Todays Culture

26Cultural Commission
Biblical examples The apostles did not seek,
nor did the practice, transforming cultures. They
pursued transforming individuals with the power
of the gospel. God then formed a new culture
within the community of the transformed. He
reconciled them by giving them the daily
experience of His Kingdom. He did not transform a
culture, He formed a new one.

Developing a Christian Worldview
27Cultural Commission
- The writings of the New Testament can be
summarized into three categories - How to be reconciled to God
- How to live in holy community with one another
- How to get along in this fallen world
- Notice how the Edenic Cry is answered
The Christian in Todays Culture
