Title: Sudan Action Group Day of Prayer
1Sudan Action GroupDay of Prayer
Peace for Sudan Water for Life
2Please pray for Sudan
- That God will deliver this great nation from the
marginalisation, inequities, conflicts and
injustices that afflict every region, and that He
would bring peace, provision, healing and
reconciliation to its people.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and
effective. James 5 v 16
3- Isaiah 60 1-3
- Arise, shine out, for your light has come, and
the glory of the Lord is rising upon you. - Though night still covers the earth,
- and darkness the peoples
- Above you the Holy One arises,
- and above you Gods glory appears.
- Nations will come to your light,
- and kings to the brightness of your dawning.
-
4- Isaiah 6011-18
- Your gates will lie open continually
- shut neither by day nor by night.
- The sound of violence shall be heard no longer in
your land, or ruin and devastation within - your borders.
- You will call your walls, Salvation,
- and your gates Praise.
5- Isaiah 60 19 14
- No more will the sun give you daylight, nor
moonlight give light to you by night - But the Lord will be your everlasting light,
- and your God will be your splendour.
- For you shall be called the City of God, the
dwelling of the Holy One of Israel.

7-
- Substantial percentages of Sudans population
lack access to safe water and sanitary
facilities. - Malnutrition is widespread in areas where the
population has been displaced by war and/or
drought. - This together with a scarcity of medicines makes
the spread of disease difficult to control. -
8- Pray for an end to marginalisation, and for such
basic resources and amenities as food, water,
education and health care to become widely
available - in every area of Sudan.

10-
- Thank God for the signing in 2005 of the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended over two
decades of war between northern and southern
Sudan.
11 Pray for the full implementation of the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement and for an end to
all obstruction of its provisions. Pray for
peaceful elections in 2010, and for a just and
free electoral process. Pray also for the
forthcoming decision on the north-south border,
that it would be just, and would be accepted by
both parties.
12- Remember the people of Darfur, displaced and
harassed by continuing warfare. - Pray for a swift and just end to this appalling
human rights crisis.
13Remember in particular the women and young girls,
who have been brutally victimized as rape has
been used as a devastating weapon of war. Pray
also that humanitarian relief would reach those
in need, despite the recent expulsion of 16 aid
agencies following the international arrest
warrant for President al Beshir

15- In the north, Sharia continues to negatively
affect the lives of non-Muslim women in
particular, and a Sharia criminal system is in
operation in 15 of the 25 states. - Pray for the safety and protection of Christians
in northern Sudan, who feel increasingly
vulnerable.
16In early March a leader of the Evangelical
Presbyterian Church in the Nuba Mountains was
violently attacked in the village of Chat. Later
the churchs thatched-grass building was burnt
down by a government-armed militia group.
17Remember the Nuba Mountains, where the northern
government is arming Islamist and other militia
groups that are becoming increasingly
active. Pray particularly for vulnerable
Christians in this area.

19Recent inter-tribal fighting in three counties of
southern Sudan has left 900 people dead and
20,000 displaced.

20- Pray for an end to this tension, and that
southern people groups would unite for the good
of the region. - Pray for a true peace dividend, and that southern
Sudans infrastructure would be developed and
maintained to ensure safe and unhindered access
to vulnerable communities.

22- Pray that those suffering from the after effects
of conflict would know healing, forgiveness and
reconciliation.
23Finally, pray that the international community
would not rest until peace comes to every region
of Sudan, perpetrators of human rights violations
are brought to justice, and the Comprehensive
Peace Agreement is fully implemented.
