2
How the Mind Works
  • We have 3 very separate and very distinct minds.
  • They do different things.
  • They have a hard time inter-relating and
    communicating with each other.

3
Our 3 distinct minds
  • 1. The Conscious Mind.that is where you are
    right now.
  • 2. The Subconcious Mindthat is below the
    conscious mind.
  • 3. The Unconscious Mind that deals with our
automatic bodily functions and our immune system.

4
The Conscious Mind
  • The Conscious Mind is where we are at right now.
This is where we spend most of our time.
  • It does basically 4 things no more
  • 1. It analyses
  • That means that it is the part of us that looks
at problems, analyses them and finds solutions.

5
The Conscious Mind -1
  • The Conscious Mind also makes hundreds of
decisions we have to make just to get through the
day Should I open the door? Should I turn on
the water? Should I tie my shoe laces?
  • These may appear automatic but a decision has to
be made re the many choices that we face
    throughout the day.

6
The Conscious Mind - 2
  • 2. The second part of the Conscious Mind is the
    RATIONAL PART.
  • This part must give us a reason why we behave in
    any particular fashion.
  • If we do not get a reason we become anxious,
    nervous and frustrated.
  • If continued long enough this could lead to
    mental illness.

7
Conscious Mind - 3
  • The next part of the Conscious Mind is WILL
    POWER.
  • Will Power does not last!
  • It fades and old habit patterns return.

8
Conscious Mind - 4
  • Working Memory is the last part of the conscious
    mind.
  • It is the memory we need everyday.
  • What is my phone number?
  • Where do I live?
  • The memory we need just to get through an average
    day.

9
Sub-Conscious Mind
  • The sub-conscious mind resides below the
    conscious mind.
  • It is awesomely powerful.
  • It can be likened to a video camera that is
    always on.
  • It only plays back what it has recorded.

10
Sub-Conscious Mind
  • The recordings cover everything that has ever
    happened to you.
  • Just like the video camera, it can only play back
the images of you that it has.
  • In a sense, it defines who you are rich, poor,
    sad, happy, thin, fat.
  • You never forget anything.

11
The Critical Factor
  • The Critical Factor acts as a gate-keeper to vet
suggestions coming into the Subconscious Mind.
  • It tends to block ideas that are not closely
aligned with the patterns that have been stored
    in the subconscious.
  • It inhibits change and transformation.

12
The Unconscious Mind
  • This where our automatic bodily functions reside.
  • Our immune system is also controlled at this
    level.
