Selecting Your Pineapples!
  • Available all year long
  • Should be fragrant, heavy and symmetrical in size
  • Leaves should be crowned and be fresh and green
  • Should be fresh and clean with no shriveling,
    discoloration or non-uniform ripening
  • Eat immediately after purchase since they are
    picked ripe

Use of Pineapples Wastes
  • The outer peel and the central core are discarded
    when canning a pineapple
  • This waste accounts for 50 of the total
    pineapple weight called pineapple bran
  • 10 tons of fresh bran is discarded per hectare.
  • The bran, either fresh or dried is a good feed
    for ruminants.
  • Usually mixed with 9 molasses, grass, or ground
    into the feed of the ruminants.
