2Who am I?
Assistant Professor of ECE
Canada Research Chair in Multi-Sensor Information
Systems
Joined UofT 3 years ago
Founded the Artificial Perception Lab, or APL

3Long term vision
Technology is too complex and confusing (i.e. too
many buttons in cars)
My Goal make human-computer interactions
easier, more efficient, and more natural
Why? More efficient PDA/Tablet PC interfaces,
safer cars, less complexity

4My current research
Make speech recognition more robust by
multi-sensor information fusion
Examples microphone arrays, microphonescameras,
System implementation (FPGA/VLSI)
Example Spatial Speech Acceleration (joint work
with Prof. Sheikholeslami)

5The Artificial Perception Lab
-an experimental environment with microphone
arrays, camera arrays, -1 postdoc, 8 graduate
students -several design project, thesis, and
summer students -funded by Dell, Microsoft, CFI,
OIT
