6
  • Now Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph more than any of
his sons, because he had been born to him in his
    old age (373)
  • When his brothers saw that their father loved
him more than any of them, they hated him and
could not speak a kind word to him.(374)
  • Jacob became bad again by sacrificing his 11
(especially 10) other sons for Joseph
  • Every sacrifice demands a cost!
  • 1st sacrifice
  • This sacrifice almost cost the life of his
    favorite son Joseph (3712 36)

7
  • Gen. 4238
  • But Jacob said My son (Benjamin) will not go
down there with you his brother is dead and he
is the only one left. If harm comes to him on
the journey you are taking, you will bring my
gray head down to the grave in sorrow.

    Benjamin i.e. 2nd sacrifice

  • Judah said to his brothers, What will we gain
if we kill our brother and cover his blood? Come
let us sell him to the Ishmaelitesafter all, he
is our brother, our own flesh and blood. His
brothers agreedpulled Joseph up out of the
cistern and sold him for 20 shekels of silver to
the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt. When
Reuben returned to the cistern and saw Joseph was
not there, he tore his clothes.

  • Their father Jacob said to them, You have
deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more
and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take
Benjamin. Everything is against me! Then Reuben
said to his father, You may put both of my sons
to death, if I dont bring him (Benjamin) back to
you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring
