  • 1. Annual Phonathon-conducted by the
    Development Office.
  • 2. Electrical Computer Engineering Academy.
  • 3. Solicitations of major gifts/bequests/etc. -
    conducted by the Development Office.
  • 4. Matching of Endowments for Chairs and
    Professorships.
  • Items 1 to 3 are fairly common so the
    discussion will center on item 4.

State of Missouri Matching Program for Chairs
and Professorships
  • Chairs An external gift of 1.1M will be
    matched by the State of Missouri, creating a
    2.2M endowment for a Chair
  • Professorships An external gift of 550K will
    be matched by the State of Missouri, creating a
    1.1M endowment for a Professorship.

The income from the endowment is used as follows
  • a) 5 of the three year average of the endowment
    is placed in a spendable account for the holder
    of the chair/professorship.
  • b) Any income above item a) is used to increase
    the principal of the endowment.
  • c) It is possible that in a bad market year, the
    endowment could decrease in value.
  • d) The track record has been good. Endowments
    have tripled over the last decade.
