- Given after a verbal warning and time-out.
- Need to be returned with a parent signature the
next day. - Detention Tickets
- Given for excessive Incident Awareness slips,
continued defiance of authority, continued
disrespect of peers/adults, inappropriate/abusive
language, disrespect/destruction of school
property, or fighting - Need to be returned with a parent signature.
- Detention takes place the next day from 3-330.

- Students will receive grades on a regular basis.
The grading scale is as follows - A 90 - 100
- B 80 - 89

11Reading
- Students will be using the Harcourt Trophies
Reading Series adopted for 5th Grade. This
program focuses on reading comprehension, reading
fluency, phonics, vocabulary, and journaling.
This program promotes whole class and small
reading groups, as well as individual reading.
Reading selections are written at different
reading levels allowing for more individualized
instruction.

12Literacy Work Stations
- Students work in pairs at a station to reinforce
skills already covered in the classroom. - Teacher works with small groups on specific
skills for that group. - Stations will change throughout the year.
- Students have choices of activities to complete
at each station.
13Writing
- We will be using a combination of resources
including the Harcourt Trophies Reading Series
and a text called Writers Express. We will be
working on the following language components - process of writing
- forms of writing
- tools
- 6 1 Traits
14Spelling
- Spelling will be a part of the students writing
grade. - Students will be given different word lists
based on their spelling readiness and
understanding of spelling rules. - Students will be encouraged to utilize their
resources to assist them with the spelling of
words.

- Will consist of 2 programs
- Scott Foresman utilizing a book, manipulatives
encouraging hands-on learning in order to grasp
new concepts - Math 4 Today constant review with a weekly
quiz - Review of basic math facts will take place
throughout the year.
